Physical processes are predetermined by the physics of our universe, but only around 5% of the observable universe is physical matter. I think it’s a little premature to discount free will when we don’t know how around 95% of the universe works. Sure, we have no choice where, when, and who we are born in. And we have no choice but to die… BUT, the way nature exists, including us and everything, it feels like this is how a free living universe would exist. We are all free to be ourselves, but we also have no choice but to be ourselves. This truth is the same for an atom, an animal, or a universe. And ultimately, words like free will and determinism are inadequate to describe the truth of our existence. When I see the truth in myself, there is no words and there is no “I”…

I just noticed later that I hadnt had a drink in 6 months. Made me think of the guy that stopped being racist. Its just a wild side effect of a rewired brain.

NDT is right. At a fundamental level how could there be free will? Something has to determine what you are choosing. Otherwise that choice is random. It is either a causal relationship or a random relationship. And, for those who believe in free will, I don’t think they are arguing that free will is an expression of randomness.

The way you laugh off Christianity don’t even consider the fact that it could be true. It was written by humans so of course there is mistakes but just cause some parts are false doesn’t mean the entire thing is false. There is absolutely some truth to it whether you admit it or not. overall until yall create life in a lab… a creator whether that’s advanced aliens or an evil god is literally the only logical explanation. And even then idontknow… Richard Dawkins and top atheists do not impress me. Scientist know far far too little… long ways to go if y’all want to convert everybody

Neil. If you travel to Pluto, and stay there for 2 plutonian years, would you perceive the time longer, or you just die within the first year. And you grow old like a regular human or does that. Become just 2years from your own perspective of time? Ima bit confused. Could you please Sr explain time in other planets. And what perception of time is the real one in this scenario.

To a point all decisions can be traced back to a series of catalysis. But at some point if you have so many factors you get a point of randomness again. Which in turn is easier to say the end result is what we determine to be freewill. Using the ice cream example, so many factors go into picking that flavor that even if one decision point goes left or right the outcome becomes different, to the point that all 51 flavors come into play to make that final decision. And some data points could be inconceivable to the mind that it is impossible to predict the outcome because even we as the being making the decision might not know the final motivation as to why we made a choice.

Liu seems to me a very intelligent, well-reasoned guy. But I did not find any new or convincing arguments for free will in his points. He falls into the same traps of believing that chaos in the quantum universe equates to free will. Randomness is not what people think of when they think of free will. He says that there is a 1% of free will, but I would argue that is completely arbitrary and that 1% of free will is just the 1% of brain biology and physics that we can not, and may not ever, be able to explain. I think if something is only 1% free, it was never free to begin with. People often believe that if there's no free will, there's no such thing as choice or decisions but I would say look to animals. Animals make decisions all the time, but we have never considered them to have free will. You do not need free will to make decisions, and nothing really changes about your life once you realize free will doesn't exist. You just remind yourself that things are more circumstantial than they appear.

There are no one dimensional or two dimensional beings as people try to convince for existence of 4th dimensional being and multiple dimensions. The initial logic stands with one dimension being able to only back in forth while two dimensional can only work on a surface and someone from three dimension is seen by lower dimensional people like a magic to them. it's so because we human try to convince ourself that there are magical 4th 5th dimensions for us too. This whole idea is only desire of men for having someone higher being then him so that he can chill and relax from his mess. while creating this fancy fantasy man forgets or try to forget the basic science logics , how can one dimensional and two dimensional being can exist without atoms and time. Atomic space is itself 3 dimensional and particles in atomic space move with time. Communication radio waves , sound waves which are in fact invisible to eyes , are travelling in 3D space. Just man's desire to change things that he did in past , he thinks time as dimension that could be back and forth movable. There are no creatures of less than 3D space the fundamental building blocks of life are made up of atom , which are in 3D space moving with time already.
